My go-to/how-to tool to help me visualise the problem solving process.
Slide.
As discussed in my previous posts about avoiding friction, I used a model of a Playground Slide designed by Roger Dooley to explain and visualise the friction process.

To avoid friction, and ensure our clients reach the bottom, we have to make sure that the slide is at the right angle to initiate movement, and that barriers to reaching the bottom are resolved.
Face.
I then designed and developed my own problem solving tool in the shape of a U, split in half to separate the problems from the solutions.

I can use this as my go-to model to create an image of the person/persons in front of me, and visualise the downward slide from initially being motivated or engaged to being unmotivated and disengaged, till they hit the bottom.

Once they hit the bottom, the challenge for me ( for us ), is to get them around the bottom of this U and up the other side. I now have to be creative, armed with the information I have gathered on the other side, and find the sticking points.
Challenge/Creativity-the Art of Coaching.
This becomes the most fulfilling aspect of why I want to coach. It requires all the creativity I can muster in order to find the necessary solutions to re-motivate, to-engage. The solutions usually arrive in developing my sessions to meet the needs I have identified when designing my sessions the evening before.
Take Aways.
Take the first step.
Challenge yourself to design your own problem solving tool, or use mine, to collect enough initial information about your clients, and then getting them around the curve. Meet their needs first before yours.
