Today I want to talk a little about hope. A Dictionary definition for hope is “a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen”, rather like playing the Lottery. We live in anticipation of- a future reward, and we cannot wait to learn of the results. Many experiments undertaken by scientists using mice, have demonstrated characteristic human behaviours when anticipating future rewards. So with our clients daily lives. They are always hoping for/in anticipation of a reward at the end. Particularly so with feelings. A feeling of joy.
In our modern consumerist society, we are constantly seeking hope, for example the hoped-for feeling or sensation of eating a double burger and chips. These are immediate rewards, but do not last for long, and therefore we need to seek this instant reward again, and again. However, at work we rarely get this “fix”. We are constantly hoping for some reward every day that rarely comes along. We constantly try to seek for it, but end up disappointed.
What if we can substitute this “no hope” with a gym workout designed to restore some semblance of hope for our client? Give them hope for success and achievement. Give them hope for that next promotion by reaching the next level, by reaching that next target. Give them more hope, rather than disappointment.
So, let us go out there and give them some Hope!
