In my last blog,I mentioned the first tip for motivating a client or player is to Entice to try. What I mean by this is find an exercise/game that they are familiar with. An exercise that they can already connect with. Something which they have seen or experienced before.
With that, they will tell themselves that they know, roughly, how it works or goes. If it is a game, then they know roughly how to play it and what the goal is. I played a game of Noughts and Crosses with my eleven year old cohorts, easy, simple. For those who are concerned about failing, they have a chance of being successful. They have an idea of what to expect, and what effort is required to fill in either a nought or cross to get a straight line. Specifically, they know what it looks like. There is no uncertainty. People are afraid of humiliation, of looking stupid in front of their peers. Therefore they go back to default and never try anything.
